<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Getty<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n<\/section>\n Eric Montross<\/strong> — the ninth overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft — has passed away after a battle with cancer, his family announced Monday.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n He was just 52 years old.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Montross was a star for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels … winning a national championship in 1993 before playing eight seasons in the pros for the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Getty<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n<\/section>\n “The family of Eric Montross (Laura, Sarah, Andrew, and Megan) is announcing that he passed away on Sunday, December 17, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Chapel Hill,” a statement released by UNC said.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n “Eric was diagnosed with cancer in March 2023, and his family is grateful for the tremendous support and the truly overwhelming love expressed by so many people as he battled with his signature determination and grace.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
